In this mode, you sail without the diesel "main engine" and instead use one or more generator sets. The main engine and the reverse clutch are out of operation and only the thrust bearing of the reverse clutch is used in the E-mode. A "drag pump" must therefore be active when sailing in this mode to lubricate the gears. The E-mode provides comfort while sailing. We recommend running the generator or generators at a variable speed. When working with multiple generators they can be run at a good parallel at different rotational speeds to reduce fuel consumption even further. For more information, please contact us.


In this mode you sail only on the diesel engine (conventional). The E-motor nevertheless also rotates while you sail in diesel mode because the E-motor is located around the propeller shaft and it is connected to a flange on the propeller shaft. The E-motor therefore provides power to the on-board electrical system through a microgrid (electric generator). While sailing the microgrid always supplies pure 50 Hz to the on-board electrical system. This means that you do not need to run the on-board electric generator while operating in the D-mode. Diesel + E-mode

Here you have all the advantages of both modes at your disposal, which means that you can use all the power at your disposal for propulsion. The main motor runs at a slightly higher speed (without extra fuel consumption) and that part of the rotational speed gives the e-motor an extra boost.While sailing you can switch between the modes described above without having to use the regulator. Everything is programmed and tested by Lloyds to ensure that all operations function properly.
